Asking God for a preferred future, far from being some lower form of prayer, is an emphasis in the prayer Jesus taught us.  In its purest form, petitionary prayer is a cry for the kingdom. We will address some common barriers and complications to petitionary prayer.

Rather than shy away from the prayer of confession because we feel as though it encourages a lowly view of ourselves, we find in this prayer the invitation to separate sin from our true selves in order to embrace the self God wants for us.

David’s focus turns to adoring God for the particular things he has revealed about himself to Israel.  Being in covenant relationship with God, positions us to know His love more deeply.  It is right for us to adore God in accordance to his revelation, not in accordance to the God we fashion in our own minds.
