Currently, the Bridge Community Church offers three Sunday school classes.  These classes are grouped in ages based on the most natural divisions developmentally and the number of children regularly attending. Tots (3 & 4 years) and Kids 1 (5 & 6 years) can have up to 15 children, but regularly have 7-10 attend each week while Kids 2 (7-9 years) can have up to 10 children, but usually has 4-7 participate per week.

All three classes follow curriculum that is developed for their specific age group by Faith Alive.  Each week the teachers share a Biblically based story and the children create crafts and participate in activities that relate to that story. The curriculum is participatory and draws the children into the stories by asking them questions that enable them to put themselves in the place of the Biblical characters and by encouraging them, frequently, to act the stories out.  This curriculum goes beyond morals by sharing the greater Biblical story of God’s love and grace for his creation.  Little Lambs, the Tots curriculum, also incorporates singing, a felt board, and playdoh, and utilizes a play-centred approach.  Dwell, the Kids 1 & 2 curriculums, create “a place where kids and leaders pause to wonder . . .  imagine . . . marvel . . . and dive into God’s story”. In effect, they give the children “the opportunity to press “pause” on their fast-paced life so they [can] ‘be still, and know that I am God’”.

Every Christmas the Sunday school children are involved in re-enacting the Christmas story through drama, poetry, and song. They prepare throughout December for this special Christmas Eve production.

The children begin in the service and are dismissed partway through. Sometimes, they sing songs in front of the church or with the support of the congregation as a form of a children’s message before they depart for Sunday school.

The Bridge Community Church is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for everyone within our church.  As such, we have a number of Safe Church policies in place to ensure the safety of our children.  We have a brochure available that outlines, in depth, the steps that we are taking to keep our church safe.  One of our requirements is that, on a given Sunday, the same parent or guardian signs their child in and out of their Sunday school class.

We have a dedicated team of volunteers that invest much time into preparing and teaching the lessons each week.  Each class has a teacher and assistant, and there is an opportunity for children 10 years of age and up to be added to the schedule to volunteer as Jr. Assistants.
